ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Android Mobile Developer leads the development and architectural evolution of Spirit Airlines’ Android mobile applications. This role is responsible for driving the technical roadmap for features like booking, loyalty, and guest self-service. As a senior developer, you will ensure the scalability of our mobile solutions while mentoring junior developers and collaborating with stakeholders to define the future of our mobile guest experience.
- Provide technical direction for architecting, designing, and building scalable Android applications using Kotlin and Java.
- Elevate engineering quality by defining coding standards, performing thorough code reviews, and encouraging modern architectural patterns and best practices.
- Oversee the full Android development lifecycle—including discovery, estimation, CI/CD pipeline improvements, and production releases.
- Work closely with iOS, API, and Product partners to align technical strategy and deliver consistent cross-platform experiences.
- Improve application stability through proactive monitoring, performance optimization, and leading resolution of complex production issues.
- Foster team growth by mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, offering technical guidance, and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
Qualifications- Required - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Computer Science
4-6 years of experience in Software engineering
5+ years of dedicated Android application development.
Proven track record of shipping and maintaining high-traffic apps in the Google Play Store.
Experience leading complex integrations or migrating legacy codebases to modern frameworks.
- Advanced proficiency in Kotlin; strong experience with Java.
- In depth understanding of the Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and Material Design 3.
- Deep understanding of MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, and Dependency Injection (Dagger/Hilt).
- Proficient in memory management, multithreading (Coroutines/Flow), and battery optimization.
- Experience building and scaling CI/CD pipelines and comprehensive automated testing suites (Unit, UI, Integration).
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Dynatrace, Splunk, or the travel/airline industry.
- Low Activity Lifting Requirements: Seldom lift up to 10 lbs, such as small office supplies or documents. Pushing/Pulling: Seldom pushing/pulling of light items within the workspace. Standing/Sitting Requirements: Primarily seated work, with occasional standing for brief tasks. Bending/Kneeling/Reaching: Occasional reaching within arm’s length to retrieve materials. Coordination: Basic manual coordination for standard office tasks (e.g., typing, using office equipment). Vision/Auditory Requirements: Clear vision for reading documents and screens; clear hearing for standard communication. Environmental Conditions: Indoor, climate-controlled environment.
