Johnson Service Group is looking for an Assistant Biologist for our client in San Jose. this person will provide biological services prior to and during construction and vegetation management activities to ensure environmental compliance. Conduct biological pre-construction surveys and support environmental monitoring in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-construction biological surveys to identify sensitive resources and site constraints
- Support environmental compliance during construction and vegetation management activities
- Perform surveys including nesting bird surveys, amphibian night surveys, vegetation mapping/ID, fish relocations, and salmonid redd surveys
- Prepare and issue work clearances prior to field activities
- Record field data and prepare clear, concise reports
- Communicate findings to project and field teams
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and identification of local flora and fauna, including special-status species native to Santa Clara County
- Experience conducting biological surveys (e.g., nesting birds, amphibians, vegetation mapping, fish relocations, salmonid redd surveys)
- Strong written communication skills for reports and email correspondence
- Ability to work independently in outdoor environments
Training & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, or related life sciences field (or equivalent coursework)
- One (1) year of professional-level experience as a biologist with significant fieldwork
- Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required experience
License / Certification
- Valid California Driver’s License
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ArcMap or GIS tools
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
Work Environment
Approximately 75% fieldwork and 25% office work. Field duties include conducting surveys in varied outdoor conditions. Office duties include preparing work clearances, assembling survey packets, sending emails, and writing reports on field activities. Full-time availability required. 6 month contract $43.60/hr.
