We're on a mission to become the go-to shopping destination for our Cathay members and passengers—offering unique travel-inspired products and unforgettable experiences, all delivered with the signature elegance of the Cathay brand and the rewarding power of Asia Miles.
This role will play a pivotal role in shaping Cathay Shop’s travel lifestyle offering. You will manage the development of Cathay branded merchandise, oversee eCommerce operations, and ensure seamless execution across channels. This role requires a balance of commercial acumen, creative collaboration, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & P&L Management
- Own and manage the Cathay Shop P&L, setting and delivering ambitious targets for revenue, margin, and bottom‑line contribution.
- Define and execute the end‑to‑end retail and eCommerce strategy, positioning Cathay Shop as a leading travel lifestyle destination.
- Establish the long‑term merchandising vision with a strategic focus on growing the contribution and brand equity of Cathay‑branded merchandise.
- Play a key role in annual business planning, budgeting, and forecasting for the retail division.
Cathay‑Branded Merchandise & Product Development Strategy
- Act as business owner for Cathay‑branded products, overseeing the full product lifecycle to ensure commercial success and brand elevation.
- Lead the product development roadmap, including trend forecasting, concept development, vendor negotiation, cost management, quality assurance, and delivery timelines.
- Drive innovation through strategic collaborations, sustainable upcycling initiatives, and core product ranges, ensuring alignment with brand standards and profitability targets.
- Build strong partnerships with in‑house designers and key vendors to translate creative vision into commercially viable products.
eCommerce & Omnichannel Excellence
- Partner with the team to define eCommerce and consignment sourcing strategies, optimising customer journey, content, and merchandising to maximise conversion, AOV, and CLV.
- Leverage data and analytics to monitor site performance and convert insights into actionable commercial strategies.
- Ensure a seamless and integrated customer experience across eCommerce, physical retail locations, and partner channels.
Partnership & Business Development
- Define and execute partner strategies aligned with Cathay’s travel lifestyle positioning and commercial objectives.
- Oversee key supplier and brand partnerships, ensuring performance against agreed SLAs and business outcomes.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including strategic partnerships and category expansion, to drive growth and market leadership.
Marketing & Commercial Planning
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop a 360° commercial calendar that builds brand desire, drives traffic, and delivers sales growth.
- Oversee campaign planning and execution across online and offline channels, ensuring strong ROI.
- Utilise customer insights and data to inform targeted marketing and personalisation strategies.
People Development & Performance Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and commercial excellence.
- Build a strong organisational structure with the right talent to support business objectives and succession planning.
- Set clear KPIs, conduct regular performance reviews, and maintain ongoing dialogue on goals and development.
- Support People Managers in designing internal development programmes aligned with Head Office direction.
- Enhance employee engagement and experience in line with role expectations and Cathay’s internal brand promise, leading by example in accordance with core values.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in product development, eCommerce, retail merchandising, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role.
- Direct experience in end-to-end product development and merchandising, preferably with owned brands. Experience in travel, lifestyle, fashion sectors is highly advantageous.
- Hands-on experience working with design houses and suppliers in Chinese Mainland will be viewed favourably.
- Proven track record of owning a P&L and delivering strong revenue and profit growth.
- Deep understanding of the travel retail landscape and customer preferences.
- Commercial Acumen: Exceptional financial and business judgment, with strong skills in negotiation, pricing, and margin analysis.
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to set a compelling vision and translate it into a concrete, executable strategy.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical Prowess: Highly proficient with eCommerce analytics tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics) and MS Excel. Data-driven in decision-making.
- Communication: Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin is highly preferred.
