Sr. Principal Data Scientist – Level 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position is in Boulder, CO – Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.
Position Overview
The
Data Scientist – Level 4 will support Boulder Advanced Programs as a lead contributor to statistical reporting and visualization pipelines that integrate and analyze diverse historical, performance, and other disparate data sources. They will identify trends, assess system performance, and aid in development of new algorithms that provide a competitive advantage and address key program challenges.
Essential Functions
- Software development using Agile methodology
- Tool and prototype development using Python, C++, or Rust
- Formulation and curation of large static and dynamic datasets spanning multiple subject disciplines
- Analysis of datasets using statistical methods
- Leadership duties to include technical oversight, planning, cost management, mentoring, and customer briefing
- Work in cross-discipline teams and communicate clearly across various levels of engineers
- Timely parallel execution of simultaneous tasks
- Technical documentation as required

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related work experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of related work experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related work experience.
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in Git
- Familiarity with data visualization techniques and python packages (e.g. pandas, matplotlib, plotly, dash)
- Experience building custom data analysis and visualization tools
- Experience in basic statistical analysis techniques (e.g. Bayesian statistics, statistical inference, bootstrapping, regression)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- The ability and willingness to travel both domestic and international (up to 10%) may be required, dependent on program needs
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope US Government issued Top Secret security clearance with either current SCI access or previous TS/SCI access and current eligibility at the time of application, which is required to start.

- Proficiency with the Atlassian (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket) and Gitlab tool suites
- Experience in sensing and tracking systems
- Experience in multi-INT data fusion
- Experience in a compiled language such as C++ or Rust
- Experience in machine learning application development
- Experience with containers and container orchestration
- Experience in technical leadership and proposal writing

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,400.00 - $234,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
