Role Introduction
Reports to: Regional Head of Airports – SAMEA
Indirectly reports to: Regional General Manager – SAMEA
Lead safe, resilient and customer‑centred airport operations at Cathay’s Mumbai home port while providing managerial and operational oversight across the assigned area. This role carries accountability for service delivery, safety performance, people leadership, supplier outcomes and financial discipline in a complex operating environment.
The work is hands‑on and operational, spanning both day‑to‑day performance and major disruptions. Acting as the Airline’s Operational Duty Holder at the domiciled airport, the role requires sound judgement under pressure, clear escalation and close alignment with regional and head office stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and operational oversight across Mumbai and the assigned area of ports to ensure safe, efficient and customer‑centric airport operations.
- Act as the primary escalation point for Airport Managers, driving performance, enforcing standards and building leadership capability.
- Serve as the Airline’s Operational Duty Holder at the domiciled airport, managingrisk and escalation in line with corporate safety governance.
- Lead responses to major disruptions and irregular operations, coordinating contingency actions to restore normal operations efficiently.
- Ensure full compliance with safety, security, quality and regulatory requirements across employees and suppliers.
- Drive operational excellence across on‑time performance, baggage handling, resource deployment and service delivery standards.
- Champion customer experience initiatives, including lounge operations and the use of technology to enhance the airport journey.
- Lead, develop and engage teams through effective performance management, recruitment and targeted development.
- Manage suppliers against contracts and service level agreements, including performance reviews, improvement plans and cost control.
- Represent Cathay with airport authorities, industry bodies and partners, advocating for operational and strategic priorities.
Requirements
- A diploma qualification in a relevant discipline as a minimum educational requirement.
- A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in operations management, business administration, airport planning and management, or airport operations is desirable.
- Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory; local language capability is an advantage.
- A minimum of 7 years’ customer service leadership experience in a travel‑related environment, preferably within airlines or airport services.
- Current knowledge of regulatory and local legal requirements governing airport operations and passenger processing.
- Proven ability to manage operations across normal, disrupted and emergency situations with sound decision‑making.
- Strong independent working capability, commercial judgement and analytical skills, including budget and cost management.
- Demonstrated supplier management experience, including contract negotiation, renewals and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills, with the credibility to represent the company externally.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to adapt to ongoing change.
