Basic Qualifications
At least 15 years of experience in Government Science and Technology business with at least part of that experience having strategic planning and new business development support responsibility.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or other related field.
- Solid leadership experience which encompasses leading people and strategy
- Must have demonstrated ability to provide strategic guidance on evaluation of risk/impact of new technologies across an enterprise
- Successful track record of working collaboratively across internal (Business Area) customers to transition and deliver advanced technology as differentiating capabilities for the warfighter.
- Must hold or have ability to obtain a clearance at the Top Secret level and the eligibility for special access information.
- Experience managing, inspiring and energizing an organization of highly educated and technical research employees.
- Successful track-record of decision-making; proven positive impact to the financial, operational, and strategic well-being of the organization
- Strong communication skills; able to engage and inspire employees and clients at all levels
Job Description
The ATL General Manager, Innovations and Operations provides strategic vision and leadership for incubating, growing, and transitioning emerging technology thrusts across Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL). This role shapes the technology roadmap, drives portfolio management, and sustains high impact partnerships that enable future business success and growth in cyber security, robotics, AI and analytics, communications, and a broad set of emerging science domains and capabilities. It will require a director with a track record of defining technology strategies that have led to successful transitions into production or new business lines.
This role will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
- Strategic Vision & Leadership
- Define and communicate a forward-looking technology vision, with clear milestones and metrics, that aligns with the CTO’s and Lockheed Martin's business objectives.
- Informed by the Corporate Tech Strategy, guide the creation of an overall ATL strategy that drives business growth for both ATL and Lockheed Martin.
- Support the CTO’s product-mindset strategy to better serve the future warfighter and focus on developing the enabling technologies and critical capabilities to build our future.
- Technology Portfolio & Opportunity Management
- Generate and maintain pools of technological opportunities, assess capabilities, and develop transition plans with internal (Business Area) and external customers.
- Manage the lab’s technology portfolio, including IRAD and CRAD, to support new business initiatives and promote commonality where appropriate.
- Program & Systems Engineering Excellence
- Establish and enforce consistent, rigorous program management and systems engineering practices across multiple projects and activities.
- Oversee the preparation, execution, and financial stewardship of the annual IRAD, Business Evaluation (BE), and Business Development (BD) budgets.
- Culture & People Development
- Cultivate a collaborative, entrepreneurial laboratory culture that encourages experimentation, innovation, and growth.
- Lead strategy, people, and operations for a ~ 350-person organization, including recruitment, mentorship, and performance management.
- Business Development & Partnerships
- Drive proposal development, pursuit activities, and commercialization pathways for emerging technologies.
- Sustain and expand strategic partnerships with government agencies, industry, academia, and national laboratories.
Desired Skills
- Current or previous Government S&T customer experience
- Awareness of key technology trends across the Defense and Intelligence sectors
- Demonstrated ability to create technology roadmaps aligned with the overall strategy of LM Operations
- Demonstrated Full Spectrum Leadership behaviors; possess positive attitude; creates and sustains inclusive work environment
- Broad technology experience (and Entrepreneurial technology experience a plus)
- PhD degree in Engineering, Physics or Computer Science.
- Experience with Senior Advisory Groups such as AF SAB, DSB, DARPA ISAT
