Role Introduction
Reports to: Academy Operations Manager
As the Assistant Manager – Training Facilities Project, you will be responsible for leading and delivering strategic training facilities development and renovation projects within Cathay Academy.
You will serve as the project lead and in-house subject matter expert, providing project governance, technical oversight, stakeholder leadership, procurement management and risk management to ensure successful project outcomes are aligned with operational, financial, safety and corporate requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an in-house professional overseeing the renovation projects of training facilities for Cathay Academy. Apply corporate design standards, procurement processes, and project management principles to ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule objectives
- Represent Cathay in renovation projects where design and construction are executed by external vendors and contractors, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and operational requirements
- Support the Academy Operations Manager in administering design requirements and guidelines, and contribute to project planning activities including master programmes, specifications, budget planning, and procurement strategies for consolidation and execution by external vendors and contractors
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to resolve technical issues and drive timely decision-making in the best interest of Cathay. Conduct professional reviews of technical submissions (e.g. training mock-up design, method statements) to ensure compliance with corporate standards and project requirements
- Administer and monitor vendor and contractor performance, ensuring that design, installation, and system delivery meet agreed specifications, as well as Cathay’s commitments to sustainability and environmental considerations in construction projects
- Work closely with the in-house procurement team to manage Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, support vendor appointments, and coordinate procurement of project work packages in compliance with corporate policies
- Develop and maintain the training facilities project roadmap, leading cross-functional stakeholder engagement across Cathay Academy (CAY), Property and Services, Engineering, Procurement, Inflight Service Delivery and other business units to align project priorities, identify future enhancement opportunities, and support CAY's long-term operational and training strategies
- Coordinate the preparation of departmental budgets, financial submissions, and management reporting, while maintaining proper documentation in line with governance and audit requirements
- Monitor project progress and maintain strong awareness of potential risks, proactively identifying issues at an early stage and proposing mitigation actions to ensure successful project delivery with minimal disruption to training operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in building engineering and management, Building Services Engineering or relevant subjects
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in managerial / supervisory role, preferably in interior fitting-out or renovation
- Comprehensive knowledge of local statutory requirements regarding buildings and safety
- Prior experience in aviation operations, particularly as cabin crew, airport services staff, or in training-related functions, would be advantageous
- Strong stakeholder coordination and communication skills, with good interpersonal awareness
- Able to work across multiple teams and manage competing priorities
- Good organisation, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or similar tools is an advantage
- General understanding of drawings, layouts, and design concepts to support project coordination
