We are looking for a Principal Architect (Cloud & Digital Platforms) to deliver extraordinary experiences for our customers.
This role is ideal for a strategic, innovative, results-driven individual who understands how to lead the technical design and evolution of Aeromexico’s digital core by serving as the highest technical authority for complex solution design and engineering practices. This role ensures architecture decisions align with enterprise standards, business priorities, and long-term technology sustainability while driving the transition to a Cloud-Native Software Development Factory through scalable, resilient, and reusable architectural foundations that empower developer autonomy and operational excellence. The Principal Architect defines and enforces architecture governance and engineering standards, leads the implementation of domain-driven and composable architectures, designs API-first abstraction layers for legacy modernization, establishes resilient multi-region cloud-native solutions, enables self-healing systems, advances Active-Active architectures, develops platform engineering "Golden Paths," strengthens observability frameworks, embeds policy-as-code and contract-driven development into CI/CD pipelines, integrates FinOps principles into architectural decisions, collaborates with Architecture, Cybersecurity, and Data teams, mentors senior technical leaders, evaluates emerging technologies, and provides architectural leadership for critical enterprise initiatives.
Educational requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or enterprise architecture roles.
- 5+ years designing large-scale distributed systems in cloud-native environments.
- Experience leading architecture decisions across multiple product domains and delivery teams.
- Proven experience defining, documenting, and enforcing enterprise architecture principles, reference architectures, and engineering standards.
- Experience implementing Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and highly decoupled distributed architectures aligned with business capabilities.
- Demonstrated expertise designing reusable Microservices, Micro-Frontend architectures, and API-first integration strategies to modernize legacy platforms.
- Experience designing multi-region, multi-availability zone cloud architectures with Active-Active deployment strategies and resilience engineering patterns.
- Proven success building platform engineering capabilities, including self-service developer platforms, observability frameworks, automated governance, and CI/CD guardrails.
- Experience applying FinOps principles to optimize cloud architecture and operational costs.
- Experience mentoring senior technical professionals, leading architecture reviews, and evaluating emerging technologies to support enterprise innovation.
Skills to succeed:
- Expertise in Architecture Governance and Enterprise Architecture best practices.
- Expert-level knowledge of Cloud-Native Architecture, preferably on AWS.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes, containerization, Service Mesh technologies, and the CNCF ecosystem.
- Advanced knowledge of Distributed Systems Design and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Strong expertise in Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), asynchronous processing, and contract-driven integration.
- Advanced knowledge of API-First Architecture and enterprise integration patterns.
- Expertise in Microservices, Micro-Frontend architectures, and composable enterprise design.
- Strong understanding of Platform Engineering, developer self-service models, and automated "Golden Paths."
- Expertise in Resilience Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and observability frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Security-by-Design, DevSecOps, and Policy-as-Code practices.
- Experience applying FinOps principles for cloud cost optimization.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders, mentor technical leaders, and drive engineering excellence across cross-functional teams.
- Strong automation mindset with demonstrated success transforming engineering organizations from manual operations to scalable, automated practices.
