Role Introduction
Join Us at Cathay Shop
We're on a mission to become the go-to shopping destination for our Cathay members and passengers—offering unique travel-inspired products and unforgettable experiences, all delivered with the signature elegance of the Cathay brand and the rewarding power of Asia Miles.
This role will play a pivotal role in shaping Cathay Shop’s travel lifestyle offering. You will manage the development of Cathay branded merchandise, oversee eCommerce operations, and ensure seamless execution across channels. This role requires a balance of commercial acumen, creative collaboration, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & P&L Management
- Own and manage the P&L for Cathay Shop, setting and exceeding ambitious targets for revenue, margin, and bottom-line contribution.
- Develop and execute the overarching eCommerce and retail growth strategy, positioning Cathay Shop as a leading travel lifestyle destination for members and passengers.
- Lead annual business planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the retail division, with clear ownership of online sales performance, profitability, and channel growth.
- Define the long-term merchandising and assortment vision, ensuring the product proposition supports Cathay Shop’s eCommerce growth agenda and strengthens Cathay branded merchandise over time.
Key Responsibilities
eCommerce & Omnichannel Growth
- Lead the eCommerce business strategy, working with the Assistant Manager to drive online revenue growth, conversion, average order value (AOV), and profitability.
- Own the end-to-end online customer journey, including site experience, content, search, navigation, product presentation, promotion mechanics, and merchandising execution to maximise commercial performance.
- Use analytics and customer insights to monitor site performance, traffic, conversion, cart abandonment, campaign effectiveness, and category performance, translating insights into actionable trading tactics.
- Drive continuous optimisation of the eCommerce platform and omnichannel experience across online and partner channels to deliver a seamless and consistent customer experience.
Marketing & Performance Planning
- Collaborate with marketing to develop a commercial calendar that builds brand desire, drives traffic, stimulates sales, and supports priority categories and campaigns.
- Oversee tactical campaign planning and execution, ensuring measurable, ROI-positive outcomes and strong post-campaign learning.
- Harness customer data and insights to shape targeted marketing, personalization, segmentation, and retention strategies that improve engagement and repeat purchase.
Cathay Branded Merchandise & Product Development
- Work with headquarter team to manage the Cathay branded merchandise portfolio as a key differentiator within the broader eCommerce assortment, ensuring products support the commercial growth strategy and elevate the Cathay brand.
- Champion the product development roadmap for owned brands, overseeing trend forecasting, concept creation, vendor negotiations, cost management, quality assurance, and timeline delivery.
- Advance product innovation through high-profile collaborations relevant for Chinese Mainland consumers, sustainable upcycling initiatives, and core product lines, ensuring alignment with brand standards, customer demand, and profitability KPIs.
- Foster close partnerships with in-house designers and key vendors to translate creative vision into commercially viable products that strengthen the online proposition.
Partnership & Business Development
- Define and execute the partner strategy, identifying and negotiating with suppliers and brands that align with Cathay’s travel lifestyle vision, eCommerce growth priorities, and commercial goals.
- Empower the team to manage key partner relationships, ensuring performance meets agreed SLAs, service standards, and business objectives.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including strategic partnerships, category expansion, and channel opportunities that drive market leadership.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team comprising an Assistant Manager to foster a culture of accountability, innovation, digital discipline, and commercial acumen.
- Delegate effectively while maintaining oversight of critical business functions, including site operations, campaign execution, supplier management, and product development delivery.
- Set clear performance objectives and KPIs for the team, conducting regular reviews to drive business performance, professional growth, and stronger eCommerce execution.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- University degree in Business, Marketing, Strategy, or related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, Training And Experience - Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in eCommerce, product development, retail merchandising, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role.
- Direct experience in end-to-end product development and merchandising, preferably with owned brands. Experience in travel, lifestyle, fashion sectors is highly advantageous.
- Hands-on experience working with design houses and suppliers in Chinese Mainland will be viewed favourably.
- Proven track record of owning a P&L and delivering strong revenue and profit growth.
- Deep understanding of the travel retail landscape and customer preferences.
- Commercial Acumen: Exceptional financial and business judgment, with strong skills in negotiation, pricing, and margin analysis.
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to set a compelling vision and translate it into a concrete, executable strategy.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical Prowess: Highly proficient with eCommerce analytics tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics) and MS Excel. Data-driven in decision-making.
- Communication: Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin is highly preferred.
