What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Project Delivery Leadership team, this position leads the delivery of the assigned projects safely and within scope, schedule and budget. This will include managing, leading, directing and guiding a multi-disciplinary design and construction team including internal and external resources from initial concept design to final handover of completed facilities to operations. Depending on project allocation, typical project budgets will exceed $10 million and may, at the higher end, exceed $50 million. The Senior Project Manager II will drive successful outcomes, influence forward-thinking management decisions and supports the overall success of Toronto Pearson.
As a Senior Project Manager II, you will:
- Lead all aspects of the project’s lifecycle, from planning to closeout, ensuring adherence to the commitments on health and safety, budget, scope, quality, timeliness, sustainability, risk, strategic impact, and project results
- Establish comprehensive execution plans which outline all proposed project activities, resources, interfaces, risks, schedules, estimates and reporting procedures and priorities for the safe and successful delivery of projects
- Lead, direct and coordinate the activities of professional and technical staff assigned on a project basis
- Support clients with the preparation of business cases and funding approval documents through consultations, recommendations, scope alternatives and related cost and schedule estimates
- Establish requirements for consultant and/or contractor selection, ensuring contracts contain complete scopes of work including all the anticipated services required
- Develop, monitor and maintain current and accurate financial forecasts and establish accruals for value of work
- Proactively identify and track project risks, develop mitigation plans, minimize exposure of the organization to risks and non-compliance to policies and regulations
- Implement change management processes to assess change requests, make recommendations, secure client approvals, and issue change orders
- Actively participate in construction site meetings, providing input on interpretation of contract, plans and specifications while ensuring that consultants or contractors fulfill their responsibilities
- Assess project related requests and resolve them in practical and contractually acceptable terms, respecting approved scope, time, quality and financial considerations
- Ensure adequate inspection and supervision of all work in progress and take corrective/preventative actions, ensuring that any deficiencies identified are rectified in a safe and timely manner
- Lead people by providing coaching, guidance and development by providing meaningful feedback for personal and career growth
- Ensure contractors and project teams are adhering to project specific safety plans and performing obligations in accordance with industry best practice
- Maintain currency of progress and trends in building and airport design, aerodrome standards, materials, equipment, construction, and project management
The salary for this management non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Post-secondary degree in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, Business or a combination of education and experience
- 8+ years of successful experience leading design and construction projects involving multiple partners
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple concurrent complex, high risk and/or multi-year projects from planning to implementation and close out, to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Project Management Certification or Accreditation would be an asset
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
- Possess a valid Ontario ‘G’ class driver’s license or equivalent
- The ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set-you up for success:
- Demonstrated experience in independently managing multiple concurrent complex, high risk and/or long-term projects from planning to implementation and close out, while ensuring that the projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Knowledge of project monitoring systems including but not limited to, scheduling, cost, risk, quality, and change control
- Demonstrated analytical skills in assessing and reviewing business processes to identify options, best practices and opportunities to improve service delivery
- Demonstrated ability to prepare process documents, policies and project documents (e.g. business case, feasibility study, budget estimates, etc).
- Strong knowledge of project management best practices and a track record of successful delivery.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues
- Proven track record of dealing with ambiguous, contentious and complex issues and situations.
- Relationship management skills with an ability to earn the trust of, and work collaboratively with sponsors and key partners
- A continuous improvement and quality mindset along with a desire to continuously seek and incorporate best practices and technologies in order to optimize program delivery and deliver value
- Strong knowledge of design and construction principles and project management best practices with a track record of successful delivery
- Knowledge of consultant and construction related procurement practices and procedures
- Knowledge of related government legislation in the areas of construction, fire codes, building codes, occupational health and safety regulations, etc.
