About the Role
This role is a manufacturing engineering role focused on New Product Introduction (NPI). Working in a cross-functional team with engineering, production, manufacturing engineering and procurement, this person is responsible for improving the quality of WESCAM product, in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. This role is responsible for ensuring WESCAM’s new product is manufacturable and has robust processes through the production lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities
- Participates in assigned projects related to New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Responsible for the NPI frontloading development of manufacturing processes and procedures for WESCAM products. This includes the creation of PFMEA, SPC, First Pass Approval (FPA), control plans, tooling and test procedures.
- Support translation of product specifications from engineering to manufacturing procedures.
- Responsible for leading NPI specific initiatives that are lean manufacturing centric and involve lean transformation projects.
- Contribute and execute on technology and capital roadmap projects
- Leadership and support for continuous improvement initiatives and projects
- Identify failure trends & systemic issues, conduct 8D root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Collaborate with product engineering to ensure DFM/DFA
- Support documentation creation and changes, including assembly procedures, work instructions and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) authoring.
- Reviewing change requests generated by engineering and production staff, and implement changes as required.
Desired Education and Experiences
- Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- Process development and design engineering experience in a high-tech environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced Project-based environment.
- Excellent knowledge of Systems, Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing and Process Engineering.
- Technical communication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.
- Able to read and understand Mechanical drawings and Electrical schematics.
- AS9100D knowledge and experience an asset
- Experience using SolidWorks, Composer, AutoCAD, MS Project, and/or Plant Simulation an asset
- Proficient in GD&T principles
- Experience with optics, drive motors, electronics and/or in the use of oscilloscopes would be an asset.
- Proven track record of leading complex projects to completion.
- P.Eng. an asset.
