Manufacturing Engineer – Technical Specialist (Compressor Aerofoil Forging)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer – Technical Specialist (Compressor Aerofoil Forging) within the Procurement organisation (Finished Machining category).
This is an opportunity to join the newly formed Finished machining Category within the Procurement organisation.
In this role, you will be working with New Entrant suppliers to develop their precision forging capability and with the MECL and Project IPT as parts of a major transfer program.
The main objectives of the role will be to develop the supplier’s capability by establishing the optimum process and method in line with commodity standards. Working with the supplier to develop their knowledge of the Forging design and manufacturing processes. Advising / Consulting on equipment selection. Overseeing forging development trials. Supporting the supplier through the development, validation and rate proving process (APQP/FAIR / PAPAP). You will execute engineering activities to deliver capability to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, deliver rate and lead time (SQCD).

What you will be doing:
With this exciting opportunity you will work with the supplier to develop the optimum Precision Forging process in line with commodity standards, you will also:
- Work with the MECL to advise the supplier on Forging design principles and commodity manufacturing standards.
- Advise on the down selection of Forging processes and equipment.
- Support the supplier during Forging trials and advise on improvements to the output of the forging trials.
- Ensure that manufacturing processes can achieve and sustain the design intent, and that processes are followed so that our products and those of our suppliers conform to their specification.
- Drive a culture of zero defects within the organisation. Works with all functions to reduce risk and drive product Right First Time. Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards including RRMS, SABRe and Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements.
- Develop, implement, validate, manufacturing processes which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
- Work with the MECL and interfacing teams and to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes are understood and accounted for as required. Capture and utilise lessons learnt. Identify, document and share best practice.
- Operate beneficial relationships with partners and suppliers to enable delivery of their objectives.
- Work with the supplier to Ensure that manufacturing processes are in full compliance to regulatory requirements, Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:
- In depth understanding of the Compressor Aerofoil Precision Forging.
- Demonstrated Experience in the Precision forging Product introduction process.
- Understanding of precision forging design process for the development of the Forging method, Die and Tooling designs.
- Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent).
- Understanding of Sabre Manufacturing Engineering procedures and processes.
