An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our team in the UK, working on developing the embedded controls solutions for electrical power conversion applications.
In this highly technical role, you will be responsible for contributing towards the development of our controller functionality and associated circuits. This involves realising complex control algorithms and interfaces on FPGAs and DSP targets, as well as the electronic circuit designs.

This role is part of our Engineering, Technology and Safety (ET&S) capability. ET&S is a key element in our organisation bringing together Rolls-Royce’s core expertise and working on Engineering, Technology and Safety programmes, engineering standards, processes, methods and tools.

This complex role will allow you to innovate and define cutting-edge solutions contributing to the design and manufacturing of our world-class aerospace engines. This is a good opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in the control of electrical power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC) who is also happy with hands-on lab work.

What you will be doing
In this challenging and exciting role, you will:
- Contribute towards the AC/DC and DC/DC converter conceptual design.
- Manage requirements & capture design documentation.
- Implement and verify the control solution for FPGAs and/or DSPs targets.
- Integrate control hardware/software with the converter power stages and support test campaigns.
- Design, analyse and test the electronic analogue and digital circuits.
- Perform schematics design, component selection, and circuit board layout.
Who we’re looking for

And for this role, we are looking for someone who is/has:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, ideally with Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience in embedded controls design, ideally for safety-critical applications.
- Experience in electrical power control development is highly desirable.
- Experience with VHDL design and verification.
- Experience in embedded C and C++ is desirable.
- Familiarity with circuit design and analysis tools, ideally with Altium Designer and PSpice.
- Good familiarity with aerospace standards such as DO-254, DO-178C or their equivalent from other industries is highly desirable.
- Good communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation for both expert and non-expert audiences.
