About the team you are joining
The core
objectives of IATA’s Sustainability and Economics (S&E) Division are to
contribute to airlines’ financial and environmental sustainability, and advance
the industry towards the goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In
this capacity, we provide our airline members with sustainability and economic
analyses, tools, and support that allow them to meet present and future
obligations, measure themselves against the industry’s overall performance, and
that supports their advocacy needs. Our division aims to be the leading
research body in terms of air transportation, and we have a central role in
helping to shape the thinking of the industry.
What your day would be like
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Climate
Policy, based in Geneva, Switzerland, you will have responsibility for
conducting robust policy analysis – both qualitative and quantitative – in
support of promoting regulation and policies that advance and accelerate
imperatives regarding the airline industry’s environmental sustainability goals,
including achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
You will contribute to IATA’s advocacy efforts with
technical inputs that are supported by sound analysis and effective outreach
materials. Working with all teams in IATA S&E, you will proactively engage
with governments and regulators to influence the development of appropriate
policies that impact the industry. You will also participate in building and
maintaining relationships with member airlines and other industry stakeholders
and promote industry best practices in sustainability management.
You will represent the airlines’ interests in
various forums, events, and technical meetings, notably but not exclusively, those
in the Americas. In coordination with airline experts and other stakeholders
and aligned with IATA’s global strategy and priorities, you will participate in
meetings and support the drafting and review of different regulatory initiatives
concerning the aviation environment and sustainability.
In collaboration with IATA members, you will help
to identify solutions and provide technical support regarding the various
challenges airlines face when complying with different regulations within and
across jurisdictions. As a subject matter expert, you will have opportunities
to deliver presentations and develop material for internal and external
capacity-building workshops.
You will be expected to contribute to developing
the strategic direction, identifying priorities, and delivering on the strategy
of the team and wider Division, including, but not limited to, the topics
concerning the Americas.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director
Policy Standards or by the Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Chief
Economist.

international regulatory bodies in charge of aviation, transport, or
environmental affairs would be strongly preferred. Direct policy involvement, particularly in
environmental sustainability matters, would be viewed favorably.
Your key assets would include:
- Strong policy analytical skills with the ability to conduct policy assessments, build recommendations, and identify priorities.
- Sound
understanding of all levers that contribute to airlines’ decarbonization
and their technical, financial, and emissions-reductions implications.
- The

and proactively engage with stakeholders to shape policy design in support
of the airline industry.
- The
ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and to work
