Position Summary:
We are looking for someone with a passion for Operations Leadership for a position in our Vancouver Flight Kitchen. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation, the Transportation Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of our Transport Team which is comprised of 100 plus Drivers that work in an extremely time sensitive industry. You will be working with your peers and team leads to ensure our goals around safety, security, on-time performance, and efficiency are met. As we are a 24hr/day, 7 days per week operation, you must be able to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Salary range for this position is: $75,000 to$85,000 gross + benefits, RRSP matching, subsidized meals, free parking, free access to an EAP, company-wide corporate discounts (Good Life Fitness, TELUS mobility, Bell mobility, Rogers and Dell computers).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising a labour planner, team leads, drivers and driver assistants
- Responsible for employee development and retention
- Responsible for performance evaluation, coaching, counseling, and preparing corrective action for employees and liaises appropriately with HR and other supporting departments.
- Develops, recommends, and implements short and long term goals for the department
- Validates daily / weekly labour schedule and confirms operation is executing on the plan
- Performs airside ramp safety audits to ensure all relevant SOP's are being followed
- Ensures that all employees are in compliance with Transport Canada, and YVR Airport Authority security and badging requirements
- Responsible to ensure the fleet is maintained to company standards including regular interior and exterior cleaning
- Responsible for safety, quality, and compliance with airline customer & regulatory requirements as well as company policies and procedures
- Constantly strives to meet or exceed all financial goals related to labour utilization and expenses
- Prepares management reports (ex. Incident reports, labor reports, delay reports etc.) as required
- Trains and monitors employees on Gate Gourmet standard operating procedures to ensure maximum safety and productivity
Education:
- Diploma/Degree from accredited post-secondary institution - ideally with a focus on business or operations management - OR High school diploma combined with commensurate supervisory experience.
Work Experience:
- 2+ years supervisory experience working in a labor-intensive operation
Job Skills Required:
- Must have the ability to pass Transport Canada security screening to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an Airside Vehicle Operating Permit (AVOP license) to drive airside while managing operations
- Strong and effective leadership skills, and the ability to successfully manage a staff of 100 plus hourly employees
- Current or previous labor relations experience is a plus, but not required
- Candidate must be comfortable with all levels of employees and have the ability to drive positive program change
- Ability to train the employee group on Gate Gourmet standard operating procedures and airline customer requirements as required
- Ability to provide both corrective and positive feedback to employees daily
- Ability to work with multiple departments to ensure a smooth flow of work from start to final delivery
- Experience managing employees in a Union environment is an asset
- Excellent time management skills required. Ability to handle multiple tasks without losing focus on priorities
- Strong organizational and analytical skills required
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be innovative and have the ability to make changes to the operation as needed to further improve the work environment and unit performance
- Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required
