What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Manager, Slot Coordination, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining commercial airline seasonal schedules, plus manage, analyze, and allocate all commercial slots to the airline community of Toronto Pearson International Airport under the guidance of the IATA Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG) for level 3 airports and industry best practices.
As a Slot Coordinator, you will:
- Create and maintain commercial airline schedule database through processing initial seasonal schedules and all subsequent schedule updates, that populates internal and external systems for schedule interpretation and stakeholder use
- Allocate slots to commercial airlines within the declared capacity parameters, including runway limits and passenger throughput rates for US and Canada Border Services, producing full assessments to verify and find operational times for each slot in accordance with the IATA Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines, our Night Flight Program, and other local directives
- Provide management and other teams with details of identified trends in airline schedule updates that may impact facilities, communicate in a time sensitive manner, and initiate solutions prior to the operational window
- Participate in the slot allocation software development and calibrate slot allocation tool functionality to ensure the department has the necessary tools to always maintain and update airline schedules.
- Troubleshoot and test improvements and report on fixes, to benefit the particular needs of the GTAA
- Monitor airline operational compliance with allocated slots as outlined in the WASG and identify any areas of concern
- Communicate schedule discrepancies to airline partners
- Coach and support internal and external partners to enhance mutual understanding of slot allocation rules and worldwide practices to promote airline schedule accuracy
- Build scenarios based on slot allocation in existing and future phases of slot availability to respond to senior management and airline requests for runway/passenger throughput/building configuration and airline terminal (re)assignments
- Obtain supporting documents from airline partners new to Toronto Pearson International Airport, as part of the application for entry process
- Advise management on matters relating to slot allocation planning best practices
- Participate in regular committees regarding slot coordination
- Ability to participate in IATA Slot Conferences held twice a year for airline seasonal schedule slot allocation that may involve shifted working hours and/or travel
This unionized position has an hourly wage of $44.63, based on a 37.5-hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. A test will be administered as a part of the competitive process.

This is the role for you, if you have:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation, Industrial Engineering, Logistics/Transportation or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in Aviation or a similar industry (Transportation, Logistics or Rail) in resource/asset coordination, preferably with an emphasis on airport systems analysis
- Knowledge of runway operations, passenger flows, aircraft stand allocation plans and terminal operations is preferred, or similar experience in network planning, complex scheduling, large scale transport
- Experience in data management, exploration and data mining of large data sets preferred
- Experience working with the IATA Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines and processes, including IATA SSIM Chapter 6 protocol, would be an asset
- Experience collaborating with airlines, ground handlers and other industry agencies is an asset
- Successful completion of the IATA Slot Coordination Course within two years and/or demonstrated equivalent expertise
- Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Demonstrated understanding of the IATA Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines and IATA Calendar of Coordinated Activities, familiarity with IATA SSIM Chapter 6 protocol is an asset
- Expertise in airport runway flows, passenger flows, government agency processing abilities, airport systems analysis and other resource planning in a multifunctional technical environment
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office software required, plus ability to use sophisticated industry specific slot allocation software is a great asset
- Ability to prioritize multiple competing requests with immediate and/or long-term implications
- Effective time management skills, and ability to work well under pressure with tight timelines
- Demonstrated understanding of GTAA programs and protocols and their effect on slot allocation
- Knowledge of the relationships and interactions of GTAA operational departments, government agencies, Nav Canada, Transport Canada, airlines and ground handlers
- Understanding of how airline operations impact the airport when operating off allocated slot times, and the importance of on-time performance
- Detail oriented when producing high quality assessment outputs on a repetitive basis, capacity to extract information relevant to slot allocation trends, and communicate findings
- Excellent skills in research, oral communication, report writing and presentation creation
- Strong quality management skills for documentation tracking and organization
- Superior interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with internal and external partners
- Strong problem‐solving skills and the ability to effectively allocate scarce resources/assets, maximize allocations within specific planning parameters, and ability to find innovative solutions to slot allocation issues
