Role Introduction
Reports to: Platform Operations Manager
Lead the Cloud and Platforms team to deliver resilient, secure and highly available services across Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and on‑premises platforms. You will guide resource allocation, technical direction and engineering quality to ensure platform services meet project commitments and business needs, while maintaining strong governance and compliance across all environments.
You will shape the team’s technical depth through hands‑on coaching and mentoring, driving continuous improvement and capability uplift. The work spans cloud governance, infrastructure automation using Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment and Infrastructure as Code, cloud audit preparation, risk assessment and remediation tracking. You will also serve as the escalation point for complex production, staging and test environment challenges, using your ability to break down information, assess root causes and guide technical decisions.
Through close partnership with stakeholders, you will enable a Hybrid IT infrastructure that supports Cathay’s strategic technology and business roadmap. This role allows you to lead systems that keep the organisation moving forward — and help your team grow as you strengthen the foundations behind Cathay’s digital future.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Cloud and Platforms team by allocating resources, assigning responsibilities and driving delivery across cost, quality and timelines.
- Coach and mentor technical team members to uplift skills, broaden knowledge and build high‑quality engineering standards.
- Engineer and operate resilient, secure and highly available cloud and on‑premises platform services using appropriate processes and tools, including CI/CD and IaC where applicable.
- Establish and implement continuous improvement initiatives aligned with High Performing Team principles.
- Champion technology standards and patterns across the Information Technology Department and ensure team compliance.
- Define, govern and improve cloud governance standards, toolsets and best practices for unified management of cloud platforms across multi‑cloud environments.
- Oversee adherence to corporate quality, security and control requirements, including leading incident and problem escalations.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure Hybrid IT infrastructure aligns with technology and business roadmaps and elicit detailed infrastructure requirements.
- Analyse and reconcile complex information from multiple sources, guide design trade‑off decisions and secure sign‑off from business and Information Management stakeholders.
- Provide expert technical advice on infrastructure usage, application integration and technology developments, and contribute to ITIL‑aligned process improvements.
Requirements
- Technical degree holder with at least 10 years of IT experience, including a minimum of 5 years in IT infrastructure and at least 3 years in a team management role.
- Demonstrated ability to allocate work, supervise delivery and lead technical teams through effective coaching and mentoring.
- Proven technical management experience across Hybrid IT environments, including public cloud infrastructure, automation using CI/CD and IaC, and associated security controls.
- Strong experience in enterprise cloud governance and management, including multi‑region and multi‑cloud environments and automated toolsets for resource and environment management.
- Demonstrated experience in FinOps, including budgeting, forecasting, optimisation and chargeback/showback across hybrid and multi‑cloud environments.
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD and IaC toolsets such as GitHub Enterprise, Terraform, CDK and Azure Automation.
- Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Alibaba Cloud or Google Cloud Platform, covering cloud networking, IAM/security controls, workload deployment and management, and cloud‑native storage and backup or recovery.
- Demonstrated experience in cloud audit, risk assessment and compliance, including internal audit readiness, managing external auditors, evidence collection and remediation tracking.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions, conduct root cause analysis, understand user behaviour and balance strategic and tactical needs; knowledge of AI Platforms & Observability is an advantage.
- Knowledge of networking, storage, backup, server operating systems, middleware components and ITIL frameworks, with the ability to build cloud cost models and manage delivery teams for cloud infrastructure and application deployments.
