Flight Operations Training Planning is seeking a curious, self-motivated, and operationally minded professional to support the close-in execution and recovery of Flight Training and Standards scheduling. This role combines real-time operational execution with cross-functional coordination to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient training delivery.
This position is responsible for instructor, student, and device scheduling; disruption management and IROP recovery; and coordination of critical Flight Standards activities such as OE, Line Checks, and Special Airport Qualification. The role serves as a key liaison across Training Planning, Flight Standards, Crew Scheduling, and operational leadership to maintain regulatory compliance and operational continuity.
The position primarily supports afternoon and late evening operations, including weekends and holidays, with flexibility required based on operational need.
The successful candidate demonstrates strong judgment, responsiveness, customer focus, and the ability to make sound operational decisions quickly in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Summary Of Responsibilities
- Manage close-in execution, monitoring, and recovery of pilot training schedules, including instructor, student, and simulator device assignments
- Identify and resolve daily disruptions, adjusting schedules, simulator allocations, and recovery plans to maintain operational continuity
- Schedule and recover critical Flight Standards activities, including OE, Line Checks, Special Airport Qualification, and other required evaluations
- Coordinate across Training Planning, Flight Standards, Sim Engineering, APMs, Crew Scheduling, and operational leadership to resolve conflicts, support decision-making, and maintain compliance
- Respond to pilot and instructor inquiries with clear, accurate, and customer-focused solutions in time-sensitive situations
- Apply and interpret the Pilot Working Agreement, FAR 117/121, Flight Operations Manual, Airway Manual, Flight Operations Policies and Procedures, and other applicable documents to make compliant decisions
- Support process improvements, system transitions, and testing efforts to enhance planning efficiency, functionality, and user experience
- Model Delta’s Rules of the Road and core values while maintaining a strong focus on safety, security, and protection of personal and operational data
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- College degree or a minimum of three to five years of experience in operations execution within a complex, regulated environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to make quick, sound decisions in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with limited information
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams and organizational levels
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and innovation
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams, perspectives, and working styles
- Experience with standard computer applications such as Microsoft Office
- Must be performing satisfactorily in current role if applying internally
- Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States, and possess a high school diploma
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation, business, engineering, technology, or a related field
- Airline or flight operations experience
- Knowledge of flight crew training processes and the regulatory environment
- Familiarity with the Pilot Working Agreement, FAA regulations, Flight Operations Manual, Flight Operations Policies and Procedures, and Airway Manual
- Experience with Delta training and scheduling tools such as DBMS, SIMON, ARCOS, Jeppesen Manpower Planning, or DLTerm
- Experience with Smartsheet or similar workflow and process tools
- Proven ability to manage complex operational processes and drive improvements
