Technical Operations/Maintenance
Technical Operations includes the maintenance, and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Job Overview And Responsibilities
United's Maintenance & Engineering operation collects mountains of data, including maintenance plans, log pages, task sign-offs, schedule reliability performance, aircraft routing, part availability, and more. The Manager wil be responsible to lead the Tech Ops India Analytics and Business Intelligence teams.
The Analytics team needs to partner with business owners to pursue opportunities to improve United's maintenance operations, provide data driven insights and drive innovation through analytics across various tech ops divisions. This role requires not only analytics skills, but also strategic thinking and strong internal/ external client relationships.
The Data Enablement team in specific is responsible for partnering with our Digital Technology partners, IT partners and other consumers of analytical data to understand their requirements and then partner with our Data Engineering partners to build scalable data ontologies that can be consumed by analytical teams.
- Manage a team of 3-4 data engineers/analysts.
- Understand the complexity of United Tech Ops applications and the current data architecture supporting those applications.
- Work with our partners in the centralized United Data Engineering group to create our data strategy.
- Envision and create data architecture diagrams for Tech Ops data ontologies that serve as the ‘Single source of truth’ for data.
- Create resilient data pipelines in Pyspark and Databricks that can support long term as well as operational data needs.
- Work with the broader Tech Ops data analytics team to understand current Pyspark resource usage and help the team in data migration towards AWS.
- Document the Tech Ops data landscape, maintain an inventory of reports, and plan for report consolidation, elimination, and/or improvement.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field like Computer Science, Date Engineering, or related field
- At least 6 years experience in Data engineering or data analytics.
- Deep understanding of data engineering concepts, data structures, relationships, and efficient transformations
- Familiarity with all parts of the data ecosystem -- acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and deployment
- Proficiency in building data architecture diagrams that model data needs of analytics consumers.
- Proficiency writing complex queries and procedures using both traditional and modern technologies/languages (i.e. SQL, Python, Pyspark, etc.)
- Knowledge and application of data visualization best practices
- Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e. Spotfire, PowerBI, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards.
- Ability to learn what a business team does, then design a data/technology solution that connects business processes with quantifiable outcomes.
- Exposure to JavaScript, D3, HTML, CSS / front-end development.
- Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship.
- Must be fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
- At least 1 year of experience in a leadership/supervisory role
Preferred
- Master's Degree in a quantitative field and/or MBA.
- At least 5 years experience in business engineering and analytics.
- Airline experience or knowledge of airline operations
- Knowledge of UI/UX design principles
- Experience with the Project Management Lifecycle (PMLC) -- taking projects from envision stage through activation
- Involvement with agile technology development
- Background integrating data outputs into production-level IT applications
- Exposure to statistical and analytical methods
