Role Objective:
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for administering the Part 135 Maintenance Department. This position requires a high level of expertise in aircraft maintenance, regulatory compliance, personnel management, policies, processes, and department standard operating procedures. In conjunction with upper management, the individual will continue the development of policies, procedures, and systems to maximize utilization of company aircraft.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Director of Maintenance (DOM) has operational control and oversight of all maintenance performed on the aircraft operated.
- The DOM will conduct Company business matters with aircraft owners, vendors, clients, employees, and the FAA in support of the Company's business.
- The DOM is directly responsible for the overall performance of all maintenance functions on the aircraft listed on the Company's FAA 14 CFR Part 135 Certificate.
- Ensures that all work performed is done in an acceptable manner and in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, 119 and 135, and the Company operations and maintenance
- Oversight to ensure the Maintenance Controllers coordinate with maintenance vendors when maintenance is being performed on Company aircraft.
- Ensure the required ground support equipment necessary for maintenance is secured and coordinated as needed.
- Establish and maintains a liaison with regulatory authorities, aircraft manufacturers, repair/ overhaul vendors regarding rules, regulations, recurring deficiencies, contract maintenance providers, and recommendations for improvement of service.
- Directs, coordinates, reviews, and evaluates productivity of maintenance department personnel to ensure that maintenance activities are conducted safely, on time, and within allocated.
- Assist in the oversight, review and tracking of the monthly budget for each aircraft as it pertains to the maintenance costs.
- Must be highly knowledgeable of the Aircraft Manufacturers' Maintenance Manuals, Company Operations Specifications, CFRs, and applicable portions of the Company.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President of Maintenance.
- May delegate functions and duties to other qualified persons, however, such delegation does not relieve the Director of Maintenance of overall responsibility.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to effectively interact and tactfully communicate with various Regulatory Agencies personnel, both in person and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to manage high stress levels effectively and demonstrate dynamic adaptability in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be skilled in managing a team of over 15 employees, effectively utilizing an established hierarchical structure to ensure efficient team operations and collaboration.
- Must be able to read, write and understand safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training manuals, Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS), maintenance bulletins and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to effectively operate the company’s computer-based applications/software and aircraft maintenance tracking programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Must maintain high standards of performance for self and others; demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in all aspects of the business; monitor, coach and mentor the maintenance team.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- High organizational, time management and logic skills required
- Ability to work at a desk in an office environment for extended periods of time
- Availability during nights, weekends, & holidays as needed. Must be capable of maintaining a flexible schedule, including the willingness to occasionally work extended hours as per project demands and organizational needs.
Travel:
Required Education/Experience:
- Minimum ten years of experience in maintaining aircraft with verifiable practical experience as an active aircraft mechanic in a maintenance organization.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a supervisory position in a maintenance organization.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a Part 145 environment.
- Must have a thorough working knowledge and understanding of FARs, aircraft technical bulletins, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, aircraft systems, and the ability to communicate this knowledge to the required persons.
- Previous Director of Maintenance or Chief Inspector experience preferred.
- FAA Airframe and Power Plant Certification or license (A&P)
- Must have and maintain a valid driver license and must meet the company's vehicle insurance requirements.
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Must pass a background check.
